If you suffer from skin pigmentation then you are in the right place! In this week’s blog we are letting you in on our secrets to prevent and treat skin pigmentation, so keep on reading…
What is skin pigmentation?
In a nut shell pigmentation means colouring. Skin pigmentation disorders affect the colour of your skin. Your skin gets its colour from a pigment called melanin which is produced by special cells in the skin. When these cells become damaged or unhealthy, it affects melanin production. Some pigmentation disorders affect just patches of skin while others affect your entire body. Everyone has different levels of melanin in their skin but these levels can change throughout your life time due to various factors.
Why do I have skin pigmentation?
If your body makes too much melanin, your skin gets darker which is known as hyperpigmentation. If your body makes too little melanin, your skin gets lighter which is known as hypopigmentation. This can be caused by many different factors including – pregnancy, Addison’s disease, hormonal changes, diabetes and sun exposure.
How do I prevent skin pigmentation?
Don’t worry we are here to help! In the clinic we have a wide range of products to treat skin pigmentation. However the first step is always prevention. Many people suffer pigmentation due excessive exposure to sunlight which can exacerbate skin conditions like pigmentation. For this we recommend our clinical grade sun protection products including:
Galderma Actinica – This lotion contains SPF 50+ sunscreen and advanced liposomal formulation, which is leading in UVA & UVB protection. It is a hydrating, light-weight lotion trusted to provide the highest UV protection.
Results RX Reflect RX – This is a chemical-free spray formula providing total protection, with the added benefit of antioxidants to reduce the signs of aging and sun damage. It does not clog pores or add oil to acne prone skin, nor will it irritate sensitive skin types.
Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Powder – If you prefer to pair sun protection with makeup then this is the product for you! This product is a self-dispensing powder sunscreen which makes sun protection application simple throughout the day. Available in colours ‘medium’ and ‘tan’, the highly refined mineral formula offers everyday broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection with a hint of colour for all-day touch-ups.
